A Smart Partnership Propels BICSI Into the Next Generation Preview:
When BICSI, the global ICT association, overhauled their outdated data equipment at their worldwide headquarters they turned to nCompass cabling and connectivity.
When BICSI, the global ICT association, embarked on their “Project Refresh” to overhaul their outdated data equipment that supported their worldwide headquarters in Tampa, Florida, which included 35,000 square feet of office space and the BICSI Learning Academy, they turned to nCompass. Project Refresh involved technological and configuration enhancements to the workspaces, the classrooms, installation learning spaces and a functional glass-walled telecom room. This major renovation resulted in one of the most efficient, sustainable intelligent buildings becoming a first-class technology showplace
Delivering an efficient end-to-end structured cabling system to create an integrated intelligent and sustainable building starts with reliable cable and connectivity products backed by a reputable, professional design team. That’s the nCompass advantage – from planning to installation − the engineering experts at Legrand work side-by-side with the cabling specialists at Superior Essex to deliver the industry’s highest standard of a warranted network infrastructure.
The IP applications include a high-bandwidth data communications system, VoIP, wireless access points, access control, security cameras, PoE LED lighting, digital displays, interactive monitors, a distributed antenna system (DAS), and sound masking. The key to the success of the building’s network to seamlessly operate these systems is dependent on the components selected and installation best practices.
The heartbeat of the network runs through the Legrand and Superior Essex copper and fiber cabling solutions. The infrastructure was designed to include a redundant multimode fiber backbone with OM3 between the two telecommunication rooms (TR) and attached to the WAN through OS2 single-mode fiber optic cable. Legrand’s Mighty Mo® 20 cable management rack houses much of the cable and is easily viewed in the glass-enclosed telecom room, located in the Learning Academy. The horizontal solution includes Superior Essex’s PowerWise® 1G cable for PoE applications and Category 6A for the building’s network and WiFi, connected with Legrand’s Clarity™ Category 6A patch cords terminated into TechChoice™ modular jacks, surface mount boxes, modular furniture outlet bezels with all corresponding and matching faceplates.
The BICSI Project Refresh demonstrates how industry-leading collaboration between two companies can result in a synchronized coordination to achieve one common goal – to ensure better network performance for existing, as well as emerging technologies. Today the BICSI World Headquarters showcases the breadth and quality of Legrand and Superior Essex data, power and A/V products, as well as validates the efficiency of an intelligent building design and implementation. In doing so, the building has realized up to 50% energy savings in sustainable intelligent buildings over existing inefficient buildings which substantially reduces their carbon footprint and minimally impacts the environment.
As ICT moves forward in the advancement of connecting many building applications onto a converged network, the BICSI headquarters and training center becomes a prominent intelligent building model due to their installed infrastructure. This is just one of the many successful projects highlighting the 10-year-old nCompass partnership, making Legrand and Superior Essex respected leaders and key changemakers in this ever-evolving industry.
